M. Akram Khan MD FACC (Principal Investigator)
Dr. Khan has been practicing cardiovascular medicine in McKinney, Texas since 1997. He completed his cardiology fellowship as well as interventional cardiology fellowship at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology. He has been actively involved in clinical research since 2003. He has performed a leadership role in over 20 clinical trials as a principal investigator. Dr Khan firmly believes in the need for physicians to have proper training in the research field so as to stay compliant with GCP guidelines and the FDA. Irfan Ullah MBBS CCRP (Director of Clinical Research)
Irfan has joined NDRA as the Director of Clinical Research in 2010. Irfan has earned his Bachelor Degree in medicine and surgery in Pakistan. Having a strong clinical background and being a Certified Clinical Research Professional, he has taken NDRA to an entirely different level. Irfan is responsible to supervise all the clinical trial activities including site selection, trial conduct, budget/contract negotiation and regulatory work up. His philosophy to run a successful research facility is to conduct fewer trials but maintain high enrollment rates and deliver quality work. With Irfan’s help, we are able to maintain excellent compliance for all our clinical trials. He considers data integrity and subject safety as our number one priority.
Venkata S. Chilakapati, MD, MPH, PhD, FACC aka “Dr. Chili”
Dr. Chili is an Interventional Cardiologist who joined our practice on December 1, 2015. He recently relocated here with his family from Roanoke, Virginia, where he practiced cardiology at the Salem VA Medical Center. There he served as Assistant Professor & Associate Program Director for the Cardiology Fellowship Program at the VA Medical Center Site for Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Interventional Cardiology, General Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac CT Angiography. He has received numerous awards and taught dozens of lectures over the past fifteen plus years of his medical career. Dr. Chilakapati also has been deeply involved in clinical research and has contributed a great amount of time outside of his practice in professional service to the facilities and institutes he has been a part of. We are excited to have him and look forward to a bright future with Dr. Chili on our team.
Ambreen Ashfaque, MD
Ambreen Ashfaque, M.D. came on board with North Dallas Research Associates & Cardiac Center of Texas in December of 2010 but has been around the clinic since 2003. She is a graduate of Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. She then attended UT Southwestern Medical School where she did her internship and residency. Dr. Ashfaque recently became certified by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine adding this to her list of professional accomplishments. She is a sub investigator on many of our trials as well as performs the vein procedures for Vein Clinic of Texas here in our office.
Yasmeen Akhtar, MBBS, MS
Yasmeen recently joined NDRA as a Clinical Research Coordinator. Yasmeen is an ECFMG certified medical graduate from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan and completed her Masters Degree in Neurosciences from the University of Texas at Dallas. Yasmeen has experience working in clinical research in many geriatric conditions including chronic obstructive lung disease and Alzheimer’s Disease. She has also assisted in animal studies of Autism at UT Southwestern as part of her graduate studies.
Andrew Awad, MBBS
Andrew grew up in Egypt where he attended medical school and graduated in 2012. He moved to the U.S. in 2012 and started working towards his medical boards. Andrew got ECFMG certified in 2014 and now he is seeking to get residency position in internal medicine. He had multiple inpatient and outpatient U.S. clinical experiences. Andrew joint our team at NDRA as a clinical research coordinator in February 2015 based on his medical knowledge background. He has shown his eagerness to learn the clinical research and his ability to effectively manage and solve multiple complicated tasks. Andrew enjoys working for cardiovascular research. His hobbies are traveling and spending time with family and friends.
